Built for the fitness industry, from the ground up.

Funxtion was founded in Amsterdam in 2011 by Ernst de Neef and Mendel Witzenhausen. We set out to solve one of fitness’s oldest problems: member retention. The answer was technology — connecting operators to their members at every touchpoint, personalising every journey, and making world-class fitness content accessible anywhere. Today we power over 1,000 clubs across 25 countries, and we’re just getting started.

From Amsterdam to the world.

  1. 2011Funxtion is born
    The gym floor is revolutionised with playful, energising and functional workouts that enhance the in-gym member experience.
  2. 2015Funxtion digitised
    In-gym functional floor spaces got an upgrade with the Funxtion Experience Station (FES), streaming digital workouts and virtual classes to the gym floor.
  3. 2020White Label Member App
    Omnichannel content delivery enabled with Funxtion’s branded member app — giving gyms the tools to connect with members in and outside their facility.
  4. 2022Open SaaS Platform
    Funxtion focuses on building an open SaaS platform, allowing gym operators to access, upload, and customise digital fitness content and share it at scale via the delivery devices of their choice.
  5. 2023FXPORTAL launched
    The operator control centre — giving teams the tools to build workouts, journeys, and training plans and publish them everywhere in one click.
  6. 2024AI & hyper-personalisation
    FX Coach enters development — an AI-powered engine designed to adapt member journeys based on progress, biometrics, and goals.
